First Patented Film Camera

The first patented film camera was designed in England by Louis Le Prince in 1888. In 1887 he designed a 16 lens camera where the lens were triggered by electromagnetic shutters.

After much trial and error he developed a single lens camera capable of filming a sequence of moving pictures. He shot the worlds first motion film with his camera on 1¾ inch wide celluloid at 12 frames per second titled Roundhay Garden Scene.
